Riverside Studios Hammersmith Case Study

Riverside Studios in Hammersmith underwent a major redevelopment, creating a modern arts and leisure destination with performance spaces, bars and restaurants overlooking the River Thames. As part of this substantial redevelopment, numerous balconies required waterproofing, which needed to be carried out efficiently while other trades were active on site. In addition to the balconies, several other areas, including roof sections and an access ramp, also required robust and reliable waterproofing solutions.

The Solution

Outgassing from the concrete substrate had previously presented a challenge. This was effectively addressed through the use of Wecryl 122 low-viscosity primer, which ensured strong adhesion and a stable base for the waterproofing system.

Wecryl 230 was then applied to create a durable, seamless waterproofing membrane across the balconies, providing reliable protection prior to the installation of the timber decking.

The Benefits

Wecryl products effortlessly followed the substrate to provide a fully bonded monolithic seamless membrane. Wecryl products are also self-terminating providing a tough waterproof solution.

Due to their rapid curing nature, damage by other trades was kept to a minimum as the product had cured whilst the approved operatives were present on site.

Seamless waterproofing membrane

A fully bonded monolithic membrane was used across the balconies for reliable waterproof protection

Strong concrete adhesion

Wecryl 122 low-viscosity primer helped overcome outgassing issues and created a stable base on the concrete substrate

Fast curing performance

The rapid curing system reduced the risk of damage while other trades were still active on site

Year-round installation

The product could be installed throughout the year, with colder temperatures not stopping progress on the project

The Benefits

Ease of application was also evident as the required number of tins could comfortably be taken to the balconies that were being waterproofed at the time.

Due to the size and scope of the project, the product was required to be installed all year round, the colder temperatures caused no concern and did not prohibit progress as the works continued.
