Guildford Grange Sheffield
WestWood collaborated with Cure Roofing to rectify water ingress on a high-rise residential block, delivering a warm roof system with new cut-to-falls insulation.
Key Statistics
Project Overview
Guildford Grange is a high-rise residential block in Norfolk Park, Sheffield, which was suffering from
water ingress. An ageing single-ply system had begun to fail with numerous defective welds, significant
ponding, distorted tapered insulation, and extensive patch repairs. These issues had contributed to
moisture damage within the timber deck and adjacent parapet walls, alongside visible efflorescence
and mould growth.
Rather than attempting temporary repairs, WestWood’s technical team redesigned the specification in
full, including a new warm roof.
Scope Of Works
The roof was completely stripped before being rebuilt with WestWood’s full warm roof system. The final specification comprised Wecryl 176 primer, a vapour control layer, new cut-to-falls insulation, and Wecryl 230 – a fleece-reinforced PMMA-based waterproofing resin that is cold applied.
As degraded insulation and significant deck undulations had caused widespread pooling, Wecryl 333, a self-levelling mortar, was used to create a flat, stable base before the new insulation was laid across the 600 sq. m area. Parapet walls were rebuilt to address cracked render and poor drainage.
Outlets were upgraded and new GRP trims installed to ensure a clean finish and improved water flow.
Key Constraints
With no fixed roof access on the occupied high-rise building, temporary access solutions were coordinated alongside strict safety protocols for all operatives. Cold temperatures and rain further limited working windows, with teams reorganising workflows around favourable conditions and applying temporary waterproofing to protect exposed areas. As PMMA chemistry can cure in as little as 30 minutes, this also helped to keep the programme on track.
What We Delivered
The completed roof has delivered a clean finish with a seamless waterproofing system designed to provide long-term performance and durability. Crisp perimeter trims, flush drainage points, and sharp wall terminations replace the previously cracked and stained surfaces, improving the building’s appearance and quality.
"Liquid Roofing Project Of the Year"
Evidencing high standards of workmanship, problem solving and aesthetics, the project was named a finalist in the ‘Liquid Roofing Project of the Year under 1,000m2 category at the LRWA Awards 2026.
“This refurbishment is a great example of how successful collaboration can significantly enhance a building’s longevity and efficiency. WestWood’s products have not only restored waterproofing integrity, but enhanced aesthetics with a smooth, consistent finish that will remain stable and easy to maintain.”
