Dilatation joints and entrance area

Apartment house in Lausanne

The entrance area of an apartment house in Lausanne was showing signs of damage and leaks, the expansion joints had cracked and the general appearance was no longer inviting.

As a result the entrance area as well as the dilatation joints in the attached park deck had to be repaired and consequently refurbished. The rapid application properties of PMMA persuaded the clients to use modern liquid resins for the waterproofing measures.

Shot blasting and abrasion were used to prepare the 130 m² entrance area for application of the subsequent waterproofing layers. Wecryl 222, a fast-curing primer that also acts as a barrier for asphalt surfaces, was applied directly to the prepared substrate. Wecryl 230 thix with fleece reinforcement and Wecryl 242 mortar were then used for the various dilatation joints and for bridging the cracks.
This layer was followed by Weproof 327 self-levelling mortar with a quartz sand topping as a protective layer that also guaranteed a non-slip finish, although it was important that the joints were left uncovered.  Wecryl 288 was applied as a seal coat with additional decorative chips to enhance the appearance of the system.
