The existing surfacing of the entrance and exit ramps for the Migros shopping centre in Grenchen had started to break up, the waterproofing was damaged and leaking. The exterior underfloor heating was faulty and therefore the ramps could no longer be guaranteed to cope with winter conditions. Furthermore the construction did not have protection against chloride intrusion.
Consequently the clients decided to carry out a rapid refurbishment. Thanks to the fast-reactive waterproofing system based on flexibilised PMMA resins, the refurbishment - including installation of underfloor lane heating - could be carried out overnight. This involved cutting out a section 5 mm deep and embedding the underfloor heating elements directly in the levelling compound. By the following morning the ramp was ready to be reopened to traffic.
