The de Neu-Bois tunnel consists of two parallel tunnels of two lanes each over a length of 941 m. It is part of the A16 Transjurane motorway between Boncourt and Bure. The dependable and durable waterproofing of the upturns at the tunnel portal was carried out using liquid resins.
To minimise any disruption to traffic flow and to avoid holdups on this busy motorway the waterproofing measures had to be completed within a single day. That was the decisive reason why modern PMMA resins were chosen for this waterproofing project.
The upturns at the portal were abraded and then suitably prepared for application of the waterproofing system. Wecryl 298, a fast-curing primer, was used to ensure a reliable bond between the substrate and the waterproofing membrane. Small cracks and cavities were filled and levelled with Wecryl 810 surfacer. This surfacer was also used to attach the aluminium rails to the upturn. Wecryl 230 thix with an embedded fleece was used to create the actual waterproofing membrane. The waterproofing system was finished cleanly with a seal coat consisting of Wecryl 288 in RAL 7030 to blend in perfectly with the concrete construction.
Michel Odiet and his team were able to carry out the secure and long-lasting waterproofing measures described here within one day. Monsieur Ioset, site supervisor, Services des Infrastructures (SIN) is also highly satisfied with the way the project has been carried out.
We would like to thank all those involved for a great job!
