Every year Thuner Seespiele AG, the company that organises the festival, surprises us with an innovative stage set. Stage designer Karel Spanhak had planned something very special for "AIDA - the Musical": he wanted to bring Ancient Egypt to Lake Thun.
In recent weeks the seating and stage were built out into the lake. This required around 710 tons of timber and steel as well as 31,000 individual units - and 20 people to install it all. The team from Bauimpuls AG was there as well, making sure that the stage remains watertight and rainproof, and that the under-stage technical facilities and dressing rooms are also protected.
OSB boards form the substrate for the large lake stage. The crew from Bauimpuls AG applied primer to the surface as temporary waterproofing. All details and the joints between the OSB boards were seamlessly incorporated and waterproofed. Wecryl 420 roller-applied coating in RAL shade 1002 reflect the desired warm shades of yellow.
